Vehicles at risk for the malfunction, and included in the auto recall, may include the following models:
- Ford Escape SUVs made from 2013 to 2015
- C-Max cars from 2013 to 2015
- Focus cars from 2012 to 2015
- Ford Transit Connect vans from 2014 to 2016
- Ford Mustang sports cars from 2015
- Lincoln MKC SUVs from 2015
High temperatures and sunlight exposure are thought to be the cause of the malfunctioning latches, so currently Ford has only sent recall notices to those who reside in 16 states in the south and west, as well as in Mexico.
Owners of the affected vehicles in other areas, including New York, are not currently included in the recall, but should be aware of the problem and exercise caution when operating these door latches. If the latches break, vehicles should be taken to a Ford dealer to be fixed as soon as possible. The cost of the repair, of course, will be covered by the motor company.
The defective latch is thought to have caused one known crash and one injury thus far. If injuries result from a malfunctioning latch on these vehicles, you may be able to file a legal claim. Contact an experienced personal injury attorney right away to discuss your options.
