Imagine driving down the road one evening after a long day at work. You settle in to the commute and as you are driving along you see a vehicle up ahead that seems to be swerving a little bit. You’re not sure if the driver is intoxicated or distracted, but in any case, he or she is definitely operating their vehicle in an unsafe manner. To protect yourself, you try to safely pass the vehicle.

In doing so, the negligent driver swerves and hits you. The crash causes property damage and injuries.

Now consider two things about this limited hypothetical situation:

If you were in a car, there is a chance that you suffered serious or even fatal injuries. Your car made have suffered extensive damage too.
But if you were riding a motorcycle, the chance that you suffered serious or even fatal injuries is exponentially higher.

Motorcycle riders are in a very difficult position out on the road. They are tougher to see than other cars and trucks. They are more vulnerable that other vehicles. And layered over all of this is a stigma that motorcycle riders are daredevils that have a death wish. Such a stigma isn’t true, but the risks motorcyclists face out on the road are very true.
